Review of I Saw the Devil (2010) by Zack B — 07 Oct 2011
What a vicious film! It may be one of the most graphically violent films I've ever seen. And somewhere after the first hour and a half, I wasn't sure if all of it was necessary. Nevertheless, I Saw the Devil is an extremely well made film with great performances all around (especially from Oldboy's Min-sik Choi who is absolutely frightening in this movie).
It's tense and gritty like the best action films are. I still feel as though the filmmakers relied a little too heavily on violence, whereas Oldboy, another Korean film about revenge, didn't rely on violence as much as it did the power of the relationships between characters.
