Review of I Saw the Devil (2010) by David P — 31 Dec 2011
What is it about South Korea and their film makers that they can keep on coming up with these murder/revenge/horror/suspense/thrillers that make Americans like David Fincher, the Coen Brothers and dare I say David Cronenberg, look as if they have been asleep for the past 25 years? It may not be as flamboyantly stylish as OLDBOY, nor is it as sublime as SYMPATHY FOR MR.
VENGEANCE, but I SAW THE DEVIL can proudly stand along side those two films as well as with THE CHASER and MEMORIES OF MURDER. My favorite movie by director Ji-woon Kim is still A BITTERSWEET LIFE but I SAW THE DEVIL is a vast improvement over his previous effort which was the overly ambitious THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE WEIRD.
