Review of I Saw the Devil (2010) by Lee H — 12 Feb 2012
One of those films that got better the longer it went on. By the time it had finished I was thinking what an excellent movie, although I did think back to when it had first started and remembered thinking how dull this was panning out to be.
It was like we'd joined the film part way through as the scene was never really set and it was straight into the action. It appeared all too early on in the film that the main characters were facing off but alas, this was just the first of many battles.
The film soon became a duel between two lead characters and it was very gripping, and increasingly gory to follow. The more battles there were, the more vengeance the two enemies sought on one another until we were treated to a very shocking conclusion.
The movie had various sub plots involving family and friends, all whom became pawns in what was like a horrifically violent game of chess. It was like 'hostel' met 'seven' in this Korean thriller, which was in no way reduced in quality through its use of subtitles.
Very recommendable, but not for the faint-hearted!
