Review of I Saw the Devil (2010) by Daisy M — 15 Feb 2012
Korea really knows how to take a genre and push it to the edge. They did so in horror with my favorite horror film, A Tale of Two Sisters, Hanzel and Gretel and with The Man From Nowhere. And now I Saw The Devil, which took revenge and torture to a new level.
Similar to Man from Nowhere, I saw the Devil told the story of one man's journey for revenge after a brutal serial killer murdered his pregnant wife. The film was very violent, very bloody. It will make you cover your eyes at times.
Those scenes set up the film to its climax so you could understand the point of the film. I think the writer wanted to make your mind go to dark places, rooting for revenge and make him suffer and the beauty of the film was that it was shown perfectly.
When the film came closer to a conclusion the main point was revealing it self. He could not get revenge, all he did to get revenge has made him loose even more. It was a fantastic film even tough it was so bloody.
This film was so disturbed and yet so excellent in its execution that if you could handle it you will be treated to a very worthwhile film. Expect the unexpected with this film and be prepared for some real bloody scenes.
