Review of I Saw the Devil (2010) by Carl M — 15 Jun 2013
Excellently played with a terrific story and characters, this is one of those films that is hard to watch but also impossible to look away.
Following Byung-hun Lee on as he tracks down and takes revenge against the killer of his wife (Min-sik Choi) makes for uncomfortable but gripping viewing, The drawn out and grisly nature of this vengeance is displayed in graphic detail and there are scenes which will test even the most seasoned gore hounds. Min-Sik is terrific as the killer of this story. No attempts are made to try and soften the nature of this guy, he is truly repellent.
This film sits quite comfortably alongside films such as Oldboy and A bittersweet life and makes for truly gripping viewing.
