Review of I Saw the Devil (2010) by Matt S — 16 Dec 2014
The film's premise is like a Korean combination of "Se7en" and a really long episode of "Dexter." Anyone who has seen "Oldboy" would recognize the antagonist as that film's hero, but he's about as far from that character as possible in this one.
A truly sick, twisted individual. But the film's hero/antihero was the character worth watching, as we follow his own decent into madness and he becomes a monster himself. The ending was a bit lackluster, and there were a few minor holes in the story.
But otherwise, this was a great film that built tension as well as any film I've seen in the last decade, particularly in the third act. I don't recommend this for the squeamish, but it's not nearly as graphic as some would lead you to believe.
