Review of I Origins (2014) by Ildefonso M — 22 Mar 2015
The film can be easily be summed up into one scene in an exchange of words between Priya (Archie Panjabi) and Dr. Ian Gray (Michael Pitt).
Priya Varma: You know a scientist once asked the Dalai Lama, "What would you do if something scientific disproved your religious beliefs?" And he said, after much thought, "I would look at all the papers. I'd take a look at all the research and really try to understand things. And in the end, if it was clear that the scientific evidence disproved my spiritual beliefs, I would change my beliefs.".
Ian: That's a good answer.
Priya Varma: Ian... what would you do if something spiritual disproved your scientific beliefs?
How do you put a name to a face, and what makes it unique from only a single memory? Why do we fear certain things that bring us to our knees instantaneously, almost like we've been toe to toe before? You can dare yourself to answer these questions, or you can just question why "Lucy" made it big meanwhile this little gem took the back burner.
