(1970) I Never Sang For My Father.
DRAMA.
If by looking at the title of this film, immediately you're thinking it's a 'tearjerker' film and then by the time the film was over you're thinking that the overall experience was quite the opposite. This is a well thought out and exceptional to anyone who crave for a well written drama film between an overbearing father Tom Garrsion (Melvyn Douglas)and his independant son Gene Garrison played by the excellent Gene Hackman. Wasn't aware that this film originally came from a play written by Robert Anderson who altered the play to write a screenplay for this well acted film and when you first watch it- it indeed does feel like a well directed stage play since much of the film centers on 4 characters which are the father and his wife and two already grown up son and daughter. Does this film offer any type of solution to this family problem - of course not since we are all stubborn adults. Although, I found the first 40 minutes to be a little slow because the film wants the viewers to be involved with the characters, that it definitely picks up after the first 40 minutes with a lot of well written dialogue and acting!
A very high B.
3/4.
