Review of I Need That Record! (2008) by Johnny B — 17 Apr 2011
Sentimental documentary on the passing of the Independent music shop thanks to the corporate record industry and (more prominently) the growth of the internet and MP3s. A bit disappointing as the subject has a lot of potential but film looks a bit rushed and is very US centric.
Nice to see the guy from Fugazi who's quite interesting but some of the other contributers are a bit dull and Noam Chomsky is there for no apparent reason. Passes the time but nothing to get excited about.
Surprisingly for a film of it's type, the soundtrack is pretty uninspiring. Liked the guy who said the major advantage over his shop over Walmart was that he could sell Hawkwind records to anyone!
