Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Kevin N — 27 Jun 2011
Painfully unfunny and embarrassingly unintelligent. This Ficarra and Requa "comedy" was based on a true story, and it's admittedly an interesting one. Yet the writer/directors turn what start out as intriguing human beings into caricatures who are meant for one purpose only: to carry the burden of horrible jokes that are milked out of every gay stereotype imaginable.
It is as if they created what they figured were two reasonably gay characters and then, after the fact, slapped some historical details on top of them. There are only so many ways I can watch Jim Carrey have sex with somebody or something, and none of them are funny.
