Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Josh F — 28 Jun 2011
Being primarily a Jim Carrey vehicle, I Love You Phillip Morris is certainly a goofy film which seems to poke more fun at the gay community than it does take gay relationships seriously. Still, I highly doubt the filmmakers and the writers took this true to life story very seriously to begin with.
Carrey's character Steve Russell isn't a very good person, and I'm sure the audience can figure this out not far throughout the duration of the film, so the filmmakers decided just to have fun with the whole thing.
Some times the fun works, some times it does not. By the end you may tire of the protagonist's constant surprise antics, but Phillip Morris is a bold, interesting, and at times hilarious con-man caper.
