This is one of the more interesting roles Jim Carrey has signed onto in a long time. The filmmakers, however, could have done more with the material -- then again, that would have been risky, as the premise of a crime film romance about gay men is unprecedented with having money and star power behind it, and straying from the formula could have broken what little the film did accomplish.
