Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Cathy W — 25 Sep 2011
SUMMING IT UP:
Suffering from a complete identity crisis this attempt at documenting the life of con man Steven Russell does nothing much other than highlight what a complete narcissist he is. Perhaps that's the point of the film, however, no real substance is developed to explain him or his life. Carrey gives an uncomfortable turn, nailing the contradiction that is Russell, and he's nicely if a bit wetly supported by McGregor. One has to wonder what they were going for with this one because as it is nothing really much is achieved at all.
