Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Rafiq U — 28 Mar 2012
It succeeds at being somewhat entertaining, but really gets grounded by the gay theme, more than making something out of it. Lots of kind of obvious gay jokes 15 year olds would make with both out of nowhere straight and gay sex scenes that are there to... entertain? I don't know. It's a really random movie, but has little focus and a lot of bullshit. However, both Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor are great and the rest of the cast does a good job as well. The big problem I suppose is lack of identity, it tries to be funny and tries to be meaningful and fails at both.
PROS: Great acting, interesting enough story, good sense of setting.
CONS: General lack of focus, not very funny or meaningful, slow beginning and end.
