Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Roxanne R — 28 Apr 2012
Usually I will not rave about a Jim Carrey film because he does mundane comedy, certainly not Oscar material but this one is different. For once I have to say that Jim Carrey pulls a remarkable performance in a dramatic film (albeit some funny moments).
This one delivers and shows you that love can be found in strange places. Jim Carrey plays the role of Steven Russell- a law abiding policeman who gets married and starts a family, but after a terrible car accident, he vows to be true to himself.
The truth he discloses to his wife is that he is gay and he was having gay affairs behind her back. So he comes out of the closet, moves to sunny Florida, and finances a luxurious lifestyle with bad checks and credit cards.
In prison, Steven meets Phillip, a mild-mannered inmate who becomes the love of his life hence the film title: I love you Phillip Morris. In the film he indicates that the gay lifestyle is very expensive and we can see why.
..What is more remarkable is that the film IS INSPIRED BY TRUE EVENTS! Available in Netflix so do not wait another second and watch I love you Phillip Morris!
