Review of I Love You, Man (2009) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
I Love You, Man is sadly locked into the romantic comedy formula. But that in some ways helps it. The movie treats the relationship between Segel and Rudd as an actual "getting to know each other" relationship.
The relationship between guys can be a very awkward experience, especially when you're just getting to know someone. Rudd is painfully good displaying the uneasiness of this. Segel's character and his performance take the movie off the genre formula movie, thank god! The rest of the cast is solid but they don't have much to work with.
There is a better movie in this material but Segel and Rudd's chemistry save it.
