Review of I Love You, Beth Cooper (2009) by Jel O — 17 Sep 2010

A nerdy valedictorian proclaims his love for the hottest and most popular girl in school - Beth Cooper - during his graduation speech. Much to his surprise, Beth shows up at his door that very night and decides to show him the best night of his life.

I got to say, ?I Love You, Beth Cooper? was one of the adaptation failure of Chris Columbus from a good book by Larry Doyle. Since the film is an adaptation of a book, which Chris Columbus always based his story from; I can say a worst point of view from him. I?m not being rude or what, but that?s the truth. The story tells about Denis Cooverman (Paul Rust), a nerd valedictorian, which embarrassingly announces his love for Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere) on their graduation day, which I very much liked from the start, and how their last day of graduation day goes with a not-so-thrilled chasing scene. I mean, a nerdy-geek tells the whole school he loves Beth Cooper, it was funny from the book, but as for the film it was corny for the scene. But aside from that, the story was dramatically good.

We all thank Chris Columbus for the 3 ?Harry Potter? films, making a great adaptation of the wizard-boy entitled from the book itself and ?Night at the Museum?. But this one was a failure of an adaptation. With the characters, not only for Paul Rust and Jack Carpenter, but to all I got 3 words for all of them: PLAIN SIMPLE CORNY. That?s it.

Overall, the movie was a horrid because of the wrong sense of the director from the book and corny acts, but with the good story, it saved a little bit of the criteria. I say, this book stays as a book, no adaptation as simple as that.

SUGGESTION: RENT.
