Review of I Love You, Beth Cooper (2009) by Dj . — 13 Dec 2010
The extra full star is for Jack Carpenter's turn as the film's obligatory goofy best friend/sidekick, Rich. His character was like the one shining star in the dark sky of this movie. I wasn't sure where it was going, why it was going there, and what the real point of the film was.
It starts off semi-promising but just kind of devolved from that point on. It did have the kind of potential to be as good as the much-underrated, Can't Hardly Wait, but it didn't even scratch the surface.
The crazy boyfriend bit grew tiresome and unbelievable the more it was used. The movie is just total mayhem in a non-good way. And Denny, by the way, is almost kind of repulsive. He looks entirely too old to be playing a high schooler (even a senior) and there's not a thing that I could see about him that someone like Beth Cooper would be attracted to.
If anything, once again, she'd probably go for Rich. When you put Denny's character up against Rich's you quickly start to think that it's Denny who should be the sidekick, not him.
