I guess you have to understand the struggles that many Hong Kong people went through during the 70s to fully appreciate the kind of friendship & loyalty depicted in this movie. I have never lived in a housing estate but did get an opportunity to experience and observe the bond between neighbors.

It's a kind of friendship and togetherness that you don't necessarily find elsewhere in a super capitalistic city!
