Review of I Know Who Killed Me (2007) by Tyler P — 08 Jun 2009

By all rights a film in which Lindsay Lohan plays a confused amputee ought to send anyone running a mile but as it happens I Know Who Killed Me makes for bizarrely entertaining viewing.

The film begins as a genuinely tense kidnap thriller which does a decent job of hooking it's audience in. Lohan though not quite a as nice to look at after years of excess have clearly taken their toll does a good enough job and the near perfect student who one night goes missing only to turn up a month later with her arm and leg chopped off claiming to be somebody else.

The amputee strand of the story is admittedly a little strange and the middle part of the movie seems a little messy as it centres more on the Lohan character's interaction with her family and boyfriend rather than the investigation of what's actually happening. Thankfully this is remedied in the final act and interest is restored.

The script is sloppy and the title has nothing to do with the film really, but it does manage to throw some curve balls along the way and though the twist is well forecast it isn't as obvious as in some other movies in this direct to dvd style genre.

There are elements of torture and gore thrown in to satisfy the horror hungry and scenes of Lohan pole dancing aren't as welcome as they would have been five years ago but I Know Who Killed me does end up being surprisingly watchable. It threatens to drag itself down on several occasions but always manages to redeem itself thanks to a strong story and tongue in cheek performances from the majority of the cast.
