Review of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) by Jon P — 06 Nov 2012
Relentlessly parodied and mind-numbingly familiar, Jim Gillespie's teen slasher romp is nothing more than a reenactment of Scream, without the screams. Gillespie's film lacks the chic postmodernity and first-of-its-kind flare of Wes Craven's cult classic, playing out as a cheap catalogue of predictable masked murders and unintentionally amusing arguments between wide-eyed teen archetypes.
The script is 85% direlogue, the all-star cast give unenthusiastic performances in uninteresting roles, and the gore is tame even by 90s standards. Avoid at all costs.
