Review of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) by Cory C — 07 Feb 2013
The story is about four teenagers named Julie, Helen, Barry and Ray who party out on the Independence Day festival in a fishing town. Back on their way home, they accidentally crash into a fisherman whilst driving.
The teenagers panic and dump the body into the water thinking he's dead and Barry makes a deal that they will never talk about this incident again. Exactly one year later at college, Julie is in the shower when she gets an anonymous note saying "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER!".
Julie panics and tells her friends believing that the killer is still alive and haunting them for revenge but at first they suspect one of their college friends Max who before being caught gets murdered by the real killer.
The terror begins and the four teens find as many clues as possible from a woman named Missy who was related to the killer a long time ago. While this movie wasn't that faithful to it's young adult thriller novel, it certainly was a great horror movie and one of the best I've seen in years.
Most horror movies rarely scare you. This film had me shaking throughout the movie even if you knew what was coming up and other movies barely did that. The film was written by Kevin Williamson who also wrote Scream (1996) and the cinematography was by Denis Crossan who later became the cameraman for The Hole (2001) and Agent Cody Banks.
While many people may hate this movie for whatever reason, it managed to gain a cult following within teens and young adults within people like me and it's the perfect summer horror movie (fuck Piranha 3D and Jaws).
I Know What You Did Last Summer gets a 10/10.
