Review of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) by Ryan S — 26 Jul 2009
Not the best slasher flick, but it did help with the horror ressurection of the late 90's along with movies like Scream, so I give it props for that. But it's really nothing original, or all that interesting.
It's a good teen slasher and it appeals well to that demographic, the young, casual horror fan, but to a big time horror fan, it's all been seen before. But it has enough to keep your entertained and be enjoyable and the performances, especially Jennifer Love Hewitt's, are quite good.
However, I have no idea why they didn't go with the ended I expected and the ending I thought it should have had, maybe it was too predictable, but I don't think it's anymore predictable than most and it would at least be an attempt at a twist ending, which there really wasn't one.
But I felt that Freddie Prinze, Jr.'s charactrer should have been Ben Willis' son. All he really knew about his father is that he was a fisherman and they make sure to point that out, so I don't understand why they didn't go with that ending, so that was disappointing.
It could have been better, the plot could have been more original, the characters could have been done better, but it is what it is and it achieves what it sets out to do and is the type of movie they filmmakers want it to be.
A simple slasher that appeals to teenagers and the casual horror fan.
