Review of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) by Sarfaraz A — 15 Mar 2011
Another Kevin Williamson triumph, a smart, sharply drawn genre film with a moral center and a solid cast of young actors to hold it. A smart, sharply drawn genre film with a moral center and a solid cast. John Debney, whose foreboding orchestral score is far more effective than the de rigueur rock intrusions. There's no doubting that Williamson is a man who knows and loves his genre, and all the scary, screaming, sniggering fun continues here. Director Gillespie keeps things moving and anxious, stylishly enlivening the inevitable chase-'em-down sequences, even topping one off in wonderfully Hitchcockian style. A polished genre piece with superior fright elements.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theatre or buy an ex rental or a cheap price the DVD to own.
