Review of I ♥ Huckabees (2004) by Gareth M — 28 Aug 2009
A fairly interesting idea, but ultimately ruined by being a nonsical mess and delivered in a manner that is as bad as it is insipid.
Hoffman and is wife, look like they from a cheap chatty not funny version of Mork & Mindy. Schwartzman is unbelievable soft, sentimental and destestable, even more so than he was in "Rushmore". Jude Law just needs to be slapped in the face, repeatably. Watts is that old cliche of a minger in glasses who becomes beautiful reversed!!! That doesn't work, and instead is just ridicoulous. Wahlberg as the eco warior hard man hero, doesn't work, over done and again not big not clever and not funny.
Somewhere beneath the mess is something, something the scrift writers, and casting crew lost somewhere. This is watchable, light fluffy stuff which I think is paradoxical with what its meant to be, or could be as some dark deep effectual mind bending drama. Its not, its just a disenchanted mess.
