Review of I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009) by Vincent B — 28 Sep 2009
When in Salem, this film is very funny. The half hour before that was AWFUL. The dialogue was somewhat smart, delivery atrocious. The actors tried way to hard to be funny when they didn't need to most of the film.
It was entertaining but felt very long because they structure of the plot was horrible. The falling action lasted like a half hour when it needed to be like 5 min in this case. Also, the main character was one of the most unlikable people I have ever seen in a movie.
Every scene he was in, I wanted to punch him in the face. The point of the book was "this is funny, but don't be an asshole like me." This concept did not translate mediums well. At the end he predictably changed into a better person, but to get there we had to wade through and hour and a half of him being a fucking dick to EVERYONE.
It was not enjoyable to watch. His two friends, however, were funny un their own ways (except in the beginning, awful and annoying). The couples had good chemistry. I wouldn't recommend, though it was kind of funny.
Like a severely less funny and enjoyable "The Hangover," so just see that instead.
