Review of I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009) by Richard B — 19 Jul 2010
I recently read and loved this book and had a feeling that the movie wasn't going to be any good (first off there was no way it could even come close to the book) and I was right, this movie kinda sucked.
It was made very cheaply and looks like a direct-to-DVD film, the cast pretty much sucked except for the few cameos including Tucker Max himself. The movie is so cheap the music in it sucks and they can't even say McGriddle.
The book is just a bunch of hilarious stories and no narrative so the movie tried to take some story and make a movie out of it and then throw in a few other stories. In the book Tucker Max is hands down the main character and is an asshole, but the kind of asshole you like and kinda wanna be, but in the movie he is just a complete tool and was totally unlikable.
The rest of the actors are pretty stupid and Drew (Slingblade in the book) is totally overdone and isn't that funny. Overall I had to check this movie out due to the fact that I loved the book, but for anyone else please read the book!
