Some rabid-flipping hippies trounce a nearly abandoned town. Rats slaughtered and eaten by the hundreds! Join the sons of Satan, and drink the spiked blood.
"Satan was an acid-head".
Indeed, Satan was an acid-head, to allow such a beautiful monstrosity to survive this long, and to be remastered, and re released in all its glory as such. This film embodies the nature and essence of 70s grindhouse. The soundtrack is just too awesome for words. Perfectly synthesized madness. Clay Pitts, where ever you are, that was the most ingenious low budget horror score imaginable. I fucking mean it!
This movie impresses me, not just because I'm a sycophantic horror freak, but for actual valid reasons.
Firstly, the acting was perfect. Not horrible, but not good.... campy, but not trying too hard. And some over-the top dramatics by some obviously hopped up actors, enjoying themselves on the set. This was evident, as the actors seemed to flow very naturally with themselves. Almost makes you want to join in this Manson-esque family... so much love!
The gore sequences, as described by Durston to be all analog effects, that still hold some weight, even amongst over the top productions, with no censoring issues whatsoever.... It is amazing to think that the original reel made it through this long, after being butchered numerous times in editing. It should be noted also, that this was one of the first films to receive an "X" rating on blood merits alone, and not nudity. Very admirable!
Alright. I beg you, do not see this movie. You don't understand the effects of hydrophobia mixed with LSD. It's agony!
