Review of I, Daniel Blake (2016) by Simon T — 14 Apr 2017
The problem with Ken Loach's much lauded film is that it ticks all the boxes, revisits his usual territory, occupies the moral high ground - but never allows for anything quirky or contentious or genuinely challenging.
This is filmmaking as virtue signalling, and that's a real shame from the man who gave us the ambiguous subtleties of Kes and Raining Stones.
