Review of I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) by Mikel K — 02 Apr 2009
I like a good romantic comedy, but unfortunately most which claim to be such usually are neither romantic nor comedic. This is a rarity - an intelligent, mature and very funny movie about a May-September romance.
All the performers are great - not just Pfeiffer and Rudd, but also terrific cameos from Graham Norton, Sarah Alexander, Tracey Ullman, Jon Lovitz and Steve Pemberton. Amy Heckerling - the woman who brought us Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Clueless (as well as the Look Who's Talking movies, but we'll forgive her for that) - deserves more credit as an auteur than she receives.
There aren't enough women directors out there, and even fewer whose films have such a personal signature. I cannot recommend this movie more.
