Review of I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) by Keyla C — 20 Oct 2009
I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) -- [6.0] -- Michelle Pfeiffer plays a TV show producer who embraces her inner cougar when she falls for Paul Rudd. (Who wouldn't?) Writer/Director Amy Heckerling ("Fast Times at Ridgemont High", "Clueless") is surely mining her personal life for material here.
Pfeifer's character is a single mother who uses her young daughter ("The Lovely Bones" star Saoirse Ronan) to keep up with youth culture. Most of her discoveries find their way into her TV show, "You Go, Girl!" (featuring "Clueless" alum Stacey Dash).
In addition to her fear of robbing the cradle, Pfeiffer also contends with studio politics, plastic surgery, and the looming shadow of menopause. The supporting cast includes Tracey Ullman, who keeps popping up as a bawdy manifestation of Mother Nature, Jon Lovitz as Pfeiffer's ex-husband, and Fred Willard as the studio head.
In typical Heckerling fashion, the proceedings keep light and fluffy throughout. It's not nearly as memorable as "Fast Times" or "Clueless", but I enjoyed Pfeiffer and Rudd enough to keep watching.
