Review of I Care a Lot (2021) by Mixamus — 21 Feb 2021
I Care A Lot is a rather messy film that veers from cutting satire to a rather conventional caper, with some implausible plot twists along the way. It's obvious the film is about unfettered greed and the capitalist system.
However, the gangster plot line that develops midway is nothing but a distraction. And rather predictable. Rosamund Pike is terrific in the lead role, but it's a shame we don't learn more about her character.
Sure, a voiceover tells us she wants to be rich and she preys on the vulnerable to usurp their wealth. But what's really beyond her severe hairstyle and the designer clothes? We never find out, and as a result there's not much to care for.
