Review of I Can Only Imagine (2018) by Esdee N — 18 Mar 2018
I went to this movie last night. It's well made and obviously not Hollywood fare. The story line contains the single most important message out there: God loves us and will redeem us from our fallen state if we will simply accept the salvation offered to us through the death of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection. The fact that the movie entertains and moves us along the way is a bonus. I think the song at the core of this movie resonates with so many believers because it's what we feel, that longing to be where God is and wondering what it will finally be like to meet Him face to face.
The gap between reviews from the critics and the audience is not surprising at all. It's the reverse of what has been going on with The Last Jedi for months. Whether any of it is because critics are paid for their reviews as some speculate or whether it's a natural bias showing through, the gap is what it is. If you are tired of the negativity that Hollywood keeps churning out, then it's important to support movies like this one. Go see it!
