Review of I Can Do Bad All By Myself (2009) by Felicia E — 22 Oct 2009
I have never seen a Tyler Perry movie and have never been very interested in watching in of them, but I was pretty surprised that I thought this was a pretty strong movie.
First of all, the acting is GREAT. Taraji Henson really is a force to be reckoned with.
The music is really good. There's a little too much of it, but they're still good nonetheless. Really liked the song I Can Do Bad... performed by Blige.
The emotions are really powerful in this movie. There is just so much emotional shit going on in this movie that I just HAD to feel moved. With that I would've given the show 4.5 out of 5. BUT...
The character of Medea is obnoxious, pointless, and silly. I really can't find the purpose of this character and don't get why she's so popular. Just found her scenes distracting and yes, pointless. And then the character just disappears in the middle of the movie. The character makes the film feel a little unrealistic and kind of cartoony. It really took away from the good emtional core of the movie. Just seemed like they threw the character in to sell tickets.
