Review of I Can Do Bad All By Myself (2009) by Sheranga- T — 05 Feb 2010
This movie was successful due more so to the many wonderful performances sprinkled thoughout the movie rather than Tyler Perry's normally well written emotional character portrayals. The storyline of this movie, though touching, didn't have quite the impact of his previous movie hits. In part, perhaps due to it feeling a bit like he borrowed from those earlier successes.. although they all do tell similar stories of heartbreak and triumph. And we saw less of Madea.. come on, you can't push her back into the background like that. ;-).
In any case, I still enjoyed it.. loved Gladys Knight's wonderful, beautiful performance.. as I did the entire musical score of this movie. So thank you Tyler Perry, for another warm, compassionate addition to your wonderful Madea-based series of films. As always, it is good to hear (or rather see) the stories that might otherwise be brushed aside.
