Review of I Can Do Bad All By Myself (2009) by Aaron B — 02 Mar 2010
Tyler Perry does not know how to write or direct with a light hand. If you do not like occasionally being preached to there are a number of his movies I would not recommend. This is one of them.
Like Madea goes to Jail, this movie suffers from making the lead character ( played by Taraji P. Henson ) so unlikable at the beginning of the movie, that her turn around at the end is just that much less believable.
At one point in the male lead ( Adam Rodriguez ) says to her " you are a compassionate person," I was thinking, what was the evidence of that? All we had seen was that she was willing to toss three kids, the oldest of wich is only 16 into the streets.
The high points of the movie all involve Tyler Perry in drag and playing Madea. There is more humor and heart in dealing with the kids, in her very few scenes than in most of the ham handed film.
If you aren't a fan of Tyler Perry , this will do nothing to convert you. If you are a fan, or at least like me, do not mind watching for a bit, this is pleasant distraction.
