Review of I Can Do Bad All By Myself (2009) by Tony F — 08 May 2010
I really wasn't expecting too much on this film and was pleasantly surprised on a few levels.
Solid performances by Henson and Rodriguez here. Hope Wilson gives a very decent supporting role as well. The music is top notch with Knight and Blige stealing the show at times with their strong singing performances.
On the 'bad part' and I understand it was trying to give some comic relief in it but...Tyler Perry himself with his drag role seemed to be overly obnoxious for me. At first not so much but...the forced rant on giving the young girl advice on how to pray with the clueless overdone ramblings of scripture was not only not very funny but, painfully too long. It really cartooned what otherwise was a decent romcom vehicle.
The ending seemed like I was watching a play, no surprise as that is where it started but, was glad to see the 2 lovebirds hook up after all.
The music in this film is top notch and worth the watch alone.
