Review of I Bury the Living (1958) by Anna N — 24 Oct 2007
A very good mystery chiller with a solid amount of intrigue, incredible cinematography (reminiscent of German Expressionism), intoxicating atmosphere, palpable suspense, an intense performance by Richard Boone, and even a twist ending to boot! This film has aged very well and is not like the campy B-movies of its time... Very effective on account of all the qualities already mentioned.
It's not perfect as the film drags considerably in the third act (as if the writers were trying to stretch out their intriguing concept to feature length) and indeed there are moments of campiness... but don't let that deter you from an otherwise eerie and chilling film.
