Review of I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016) by Diane P — 08 Sep 2017
I thought it was pretty riveting. It reminded me very much of a ghostly tale I read some years ago called "The Yellow Wall Paper" which was a story of a woman's slow descent into madness.
Although this is a ghost story, it invokes the scary isolation, and overall massive creep factor in this old short story. It is narrated in first person, so the movie is viewed entirely through the thought process of the main character.
The ghost in this movie is depicted exactly the way I would imagine a ghost to look if I were to see one. As I was watching this movie, I said to my daughter there is no way in hell I would be staying in this house.
..The directing is very good, the use of sound and visual effects are excellent and believable. There could have been maybe a bit more 'meat' to the story itself, and it's not really a new tale, but the way it is told is very effective.
