Review of I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016) by Violet R — 13 Nov 2016
Stunningly horrifying. While people that expect gruesome imagery and jumpscares in their horror films may be disappointed those that appreciate beautiful imagery and haunting story-telling will be delighted.
The opening sequence is by far the scariest opening I've seen in a horror film and sets the pace for the rest of the film. The story unfolds in a way reminiscent of listening to a ghost story or reading a beautifully spun horror tale with the accompanying imagery much resembling what one would picture while hearing a story told.
The words and sentences used by the narrator are incredibly striking and poetic, something that really isn't done much in modern horror films. While slow-paced the film unravels perfectly and doesn't fall victim to any of the usual horror tropes.
My husband and I sat speechless after it ended. I can't really say enough about how striking the words and images are in this movie. Brilliant story-telling!
