Review of I Am Sam (2014) by Aaron D — 14 Feb 2010

A heart breaking movie about a mentally challenged manâ??s (Sean Penn) struggle and fight for her daughterâ??s custody. Sean Pennâ??s portrayal of Sam is very much alive. I was carried away by Samâ??s attitude about life and his daughter even though he is handicapped. For me, the image of a best father in the world is best exemplified by Samâ??s character He never let his ailment get in the way of his responsibilities as a man and as a father. The director was able to capture the real essence of a man thru Sam, how he was able to affect the lives of people that gets to know him and his daughter.

The movie would take you in a world where hope and kindness donâ??t falter despite societyâ??s and realityâ??s cruel treatment to people like Sam. Her daughterâ??s affection and love for him is so immense that each scene can be tear-jerking. I fell in love with this movie so much because of the values it is sharing to its viewers.

In this world where family becomes just a second priority to everyone, this film is a good wake-up call for us to remember that our families are the most precious gift we have received, we could ever receive in our lifetime.

I AM SAM is one of my favorite movies for it imparts a very good lesson about love, life and hope.
