The title pretty much tells you what you are going to get from this one. It is pretty much a remake of The Omega Man and a DTH release that tries to grab the coat tails of the big budget release this year of Matheson?s short story I Am Legend which was the inspiration for the previously mentioned Charelton Heston film (The very first try at putting this story on film was the Vincent Price film The Last Man on Earth). This movie, like Heston?s version, departs from the original story pretty quickly and not necessarily in a good way. Although they try to portray the loss and psychological impact of loneliness, it doesn?t quite work here and they abandon it quickly anyway in favor of fight scenes and action effects..
The make up and fight effects of the movie are nothing eye opening. The disease victims look suitably mutated to be sure, and the blood does splatter when the violence kicks off, but nothing about is more than average, seen it often, stuff. The music score is also an average; nothing grabs you, type of soundtrack. When all is said and done this wasn?t a total waste of film. There are some good action scenes in it, a few humorous ones, and nothing horrible about it. It does, however, fall short of the other bigger productions of this story that exist, including the newest one..
