I Am Number Four feels like a truly great movie trapped inside an incredibly awful one. I've only seen this film once, so I won't go into detail, but a quick dissection. First of all, this film has very little action.

It has the thirty seconds in the beginning.... And then we have to wait an hour?! I'm not asking for a bunch of explosions, but I do ask for something in a sci-fi film that advertised itself as an action feature.

I wouldn't mind so much if the buildup wasn't so shockingly lame. It's pretty much a Twilight knockoff, admittedly told with more heart, humor and wit. But so what? I care little about the characters, and the movie falls into the same old cliches.

I will admit that the action scene at the end is competently done (although I missed the last ten minutes of it), especially the monster's the villains have. Seriously, those monsters are some of the coolest things on film.

Unfortunately, their coolness is undone by the sheer idiocy of the design of the dog's monster form. Really? That was just stupid. In short, not a terrible film, but when great science fiction movies like Moon are out there, why bother?
