Review of I Am Love (2010) by Luis Diego R — 09 Aug 2010
Of the many paradoxical pairings of I am Love, one is the way it seems to simultaneously assuredly render and naively discover its own world. A fragmented and uncertain voice to be sure, but while alternately channeling the high modern realism of Antonioni and the rich pastiche of Sirk or Haynes, the film shatters convention and evokes it's subject with fatigued freshness.
From the first scene, when the 180-degree rule is flouted, the ornate geometry of beauty and truth flicker with oscillant elegance and ugliness. A movie of hand and mouth and of eye, without ever feeling pornographic.
I trust this.
