Review of I Am Love (2010) by Muhammad T — 11 Jul 2011
Absolutely gorgeous filmmaking. The cinematography is unparalled. Really. The beauty of this film is breathtaking and I am disappointed that I did not get to see it on a large screen in order to fully appreciate the colors and the framing.
I also loved the somewhat abstract style of telling this story, with pieces of footage edited quickly to mark a passage of time.
The storyline follows Emma, a Russian woman who moved to Italy when she met her husband. She has 2 sons and 1 daughter. Her children are going through a transitional time in their lives: marriage, career, university, etc., which is obviously affecting the way Emma sees her own life. She sees the incredible possibilities her children have, which makes her see things in a whole new way. Great film about a woman who might have once seen herself as subordinate and insignificant, but then is reminded about the wonders of life all around her.
