Review of I Am Legend (2007) by Pastry S — 02 Jan 2014
A one star that if watched with the original ending, included as an alternate ending, would be a five star movie. Basically a two-man show, Smith and the dog, the film doesn't need any help. Smith putting together an amazing performance and a dog that seemed like it was actually aware of the acting it was doing, amazing handlers.
The CGI is not overbearing and doesn't shock the system as to remove the audience from the setting. [Light spoilers] However, the biggest travesty to the movie is the ending. The entire plot moves in one direction, showing the 'monsters' still have some humanity, gets completely ignored in a fire bomb.
Instead the film takes the easy way making sure the 'monsters' don't win, but forget that is the point they tried to make throughout! The story, the film, the commentary are all so much better for it.
How does the title "I am Legend" make sense if he never becomes the legend as the 'monsters' always remain just that, 'monsters'. Do yourself a favor and pick up, or catch it on YouTube, the real ending and actually enjoy the masterpiece that COULD have been.
