Review of I Am Legend (2007) by Chad H — 25 Feb 2013

Ahh Will Smith, this movie just didn't do it for me. It starts out with a man named Robert Neville who is esentially the last man on earth after a horrible virus has wiped out humanity turning everyone into mindless zombies afraid of the sun. Its pretty much a remake of "The Last Man On Earth" but it has its moments. Now I am not even going to address the dog scene because I hear from everyone"Oh it was so sad I cried not even gonna lie" well I for one thought it was sad, but how it got to that point was just..well I have problems with it. If the dog was so well trained why did it run off in the first place. There are a few problems in this movie but the main one is that it rests on pulling at your heartstrings in the grand scale of things and that is just off centered considering this is supposedly a science fiction film. I did however like the idea of the zombies not actually being zombies but with a little twist. The visuals were nice and the atmosphere definitely had that alone feeling present throughout the entire thing. However the film left me with a lot of unexplained things which is why I took some points off but I don't want to nitpick. Its a basic and average action flick sure to keep your attention, another problem though is the climax and its shift in speed. After Roberts dog dies he goes crazy which is essentially the highlight of the film, he doesn't care about what happens to him anymore since he just lost his best friend, the breakdown scene is really well done but after that...well thats just it, it can't be topped and the rest is just a horrible downward spiral that has you losing interest until the very end. It tried to be both an action thriller with romance involved but it really does come off as a tad forced with him accepting these new people into his life.

Overall I would say this movie is definitely for those people who love Will Smith and love those dime a dozen action flicks. So enjoy!
