Review of I Am David (2003) by James H — 29 Dec 2004
This is just not a very believable story, and Ben Tibber's voice and accent are annoying and distracting respectively.
The kid is not an actor, and it shows. He is not terrible in the role by any means, but a really effective boy actor might have raised this film a notch or two. Then again, maybe not. The story rings false and manipulative. It could have impressed me more if it were a true story, but it is not.
The cinematography and scenery (the movie is set mostly in Italy) are gorgeous (having the advantage of display on my new plasma wide screen!), but they are just window dressing for a story that has nothing to sell.
Precise Knight Rating 6.1.
