Review of I Am David (2003) by Heather B — 29 May 2005
Yesterday I watched I Am David on Pay Per View. I had been wanting to see it for some time, because the book had been a favourite of mine as a child. .

Well, the old saying of "the book is always better than the movie" still holds true. .
.
It was half-decent. The performances weren't particularly great, but they weren't terrible. The visuals were alright, but nothing spectacular. It was tolerable to watch. .
.
They didn't get across David's lack of knowledge about the world. In the book, there's a moment where David is trying to figure out what an orange is, for instance. They didn't show that to any full extent. He also talked to people a lot more than he did in the book. Also, a point that is halfway in the book is 15 minutes into the movie, so they skip over a lot. My major complaint is the ending, and how drastically they changed it, for the worse. Having David's mother not know of his return until the last second is a way better ending. .

The Opinion: I think I'll go read the book. .
