Review of I Am Comic (2010) by Mike C — 30 Sep 2010
Comedians are my people. As much as I like writers and musicians, most of the people I look up to are comedians. Carlin, Stewart, Maher, etc. This documentary about comics and their art is not only informing but actually funny, which many comic docus have failed to be (even Kathy Griffin is funny, which makes me wonder why she doesn't try that in her act).
There are some cool stories to accompany the jokes. Most of the comedians featured I've heard of and are funny. Brian Regan is a superstar and clean comic...by far the funniest clean comic out there. Greg Giraldo is interviewed early in the docu. He was an up and coming fav of mine so sucked to see that just days after his death. As much as I love comedians, it is always funny to me how many unfunny ones there are. Naturally, there are a couple of those in the movie too (and often they have the most to say). Finally, I didn't care for the little subplot of so and so returning to the stage. I don't get why docus can't just be straight-forward without all the inspiration crap.
